Mount Haramukh

Preparations

While planning your trek, keep the following points in consideration:

  • Make sure you don’t have any breathing problem.
  • You don’t have a fear of heights.
  • Carry your own personal medication as well.
  • It is advisable to consult your doctor before initiating the trek.
  • Rather chose trekking for few days.

Fitness

Kashmir Treks are achievable by anyone with a sound level of general fitness. The biggest challenge will be the first part of the trek across alpine terrain, which altitudes above 3000m. The minimum fitness requirements are:

  • Ability to carry up to 4kg in a day sack.
  • Up to 4.5 hours trekking per day.
  • Walking habit of around 9km per day.
  • Being able to go through remote, uneven, snowy, icy, rocky, sometimes exposed terrain at up to 3600m.
  • Comfortable with sudden or prolonged climatic changes.

The first hike through pine forest of Butsheri following gradual walking through meadows is certainly going to make adrenaline rush through yours veins in one of the most beautiful destinations in Kashmir.


Trek Itinerary

Day 1 : Arrival at Srinagar

With your arrival on the land of beauty, our representative will be there at your service to welcome you and will take you to the houseboat at Dal Lake. Spreading across an area of around 15 km, Dal Lake is Srinagar’s jewel. Seeming to be a vast carpet of water showcasing the carved wooden balconies of the houseboats and the misty peaks of the Pir Panjal Mountains around will be the dream place to stay where you’ll spend the night.


Day 2 : Srinagar – Naranag – Trunkhol (3 hour drive/ 5 hour trek)

On waking up, you’ll be served breakfast. Post breakfast, you’ll drive to Naranag. As you reach Naranag you’ll pack your load on horses to begin the trek. Via slightly steep route, you’ll pass through pine forest of Butsheri and meadows of Bodpathri. And finally, for the day so far to come to rest, you’ll stay overnight at the camp at Trunkhol.


Day 3 : Trunkhol – Gangabal Lake (4 hour trek)

On the morning of third day of the expedition, you’ll be leaving Trunkhol meadow to walk through grassy fields. For the overnight stay you’ll camp at the Gangabal Lake. There are two Lakes, the Gangabal and the Nundkol situated at the foothills of Mount Haramukh adding more colors to serenity of the area around and adorn it by their presence.


Day 4 : Gangabal – Kolesar – Mahlish (4 hours trek)

You’ll Leave Gangabal Lake and walk through meadows and reach Kolesar Lake. You can enjoy the scenic view around the lake but that won’t be your stop. You’ll have to walk further and trek to Mahlish for an overnight stay. Mahlish meadow is considerably the best camping ground having an awe-inspiring view of Sind Valley.


Day 5 : Mahlish – Chaturgul – Srinagar (4 hours trek, 3 hour drive)

You’ll depart from Mahlish and trek down to Chaturgul through the meadows and move downwards through a pine forest to Chaturgul village. There then comes an end to your walking. You’ll grab a car and drive back to Srinagar for an overnight stay at the houseboat.


Day 6 : The Departure

Here it will come to the end, to the departure day of Naranag Gangabal Mahlish Trek. Our representative will drop you at the airport or bus station. In case you will be left with some spare time and if it would be possible, our representative will take you for seeing around Srinagar.
