Overview

The Naranag Gangabal trek is famous Budget Trek of Kashmir and is a perfect blend of nature’s beauty and the charm of ancient treasures. Gangabal Lake is an oligotrophic lake situated at the foothill of the Harmukh Mountain in the Ganderbal district. Resting at a height of 3570m above sea level, the lake is a home to rainbow and brown trout fishes.

Trek Itinerary

Day 1 : Arrival in Srinagar

Upon your arrival, our representatives will welcome you at the airport before accompanying you to the houseboat. You can spend the day sightseeing at Srinagar and enjoy a luxurious stay at the houseboat.


Day 2 : Drive from Srinagar-Naranag, Trek to Butsheri-Trunkhol

The next day we will depart from the houseboat early morning to drive towards Naranag which is the basecamp for the trek. We will pass through the Ganderbal village and the Sindh Valley on the way to Naranag. On the route, we will also make a visit to the Buddhist monastery which was built in the 9th century. We will head towards Butsheri as soon as we reach at the Naranag village. After passing through the dense forest and steep trail we will set our camp at Trunkhol for an overnight stay.


Day 3 : Trunkhol – Gangabal

As the day starts we will start our journey towards Bodpathri which is a meadow strewn with flowers. Walking amidst the flower laid path and admiring the beauty of the mountains we will reach at the site of Gangabal Lake where will spend the night in the camps.


Day 4 : Gangabal Lake

You are free to spend the whole day roaming around the Gangabal Lake or experience the activity of fishing brown trout’s. For the thrill lovers, they can walk towards the Kolsar Lake and witness its beauty. The night will be spent across the Gangabal Lake gazing at the night sky.


Day 5 : Gangabal - Naranag, Drive to Srinagar

After enjoying a delicious meal in the morning, we will take the same route back towards Naranag. For the last time admire the beauty of the oligotrophic lakes and walk down the mountains to pass through the meadows of Bodpathri, Trunkhol and Butsheri to reach the Naranag village. A drive from Naranag will be arranged for you to reach Srinagar and spend the night in the hotel.


Day 6 : Departure from Srinagar

Our representatives will arrange a ride to the airport for you to take depart from Kashmir.


How fit do you need to be for Gangabal lake trek?

For those who are new to the trekking, you can do number of workouts which are mentioned in our blog post “Plan a Successful Trek”. If you are starting 1 months prior, you should jog for around 20 mins and if you are starting 15 days prior, you can jog for 25-35 minutes. You can increase your sets of sit-ups and push-ups to 3 to 4 if you are starting two weeks or month prior your trek in Kashmir. You should also do the up-hill training for more than 8-10 minutes. This regime, if followed properly, is sure to render you fit enough for your trek. It will make your trek easier and save you from those painful muscle cramps!
